Wawmanona

Wawmanona, Florence, Alabama

Period: Woodland

The mound was called Wawmanona by the Chickasaw and Cherokee Indians and was believed to be a temple constructed around 500 CE. Florence has several smaller mounds located along the Tennessee River.
