Archaeological Illustrations
Welcome to my website. I have really enjoyed creating these archaeological reconstruction illustrations commissioned by author, Dr. Gregory L. Little.
I am excited to share my work. I find the information on the Native American Earthworks fascinating and I hope you do.
My process is to start with materials like old survey maps and photos of the sites. Next, I like to see the sites as they exist today with Google Earth, Google Maps, and other internet resources. I visit the sites in person when feasible.
I use computer graphics programs like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Rhinoceros 3D to help refine the images. Rhinoceros 3D lets me view the sites from many angles and experiment with lighting at different times of the day. For the final illustrations, I use colored pencils, acrylic paint, and pen and ink.
Earlier in my career, I designed giftware and created reproductions of many famous stained-glass windows for major museums. Now, doing these archaeological illustrations has been an interesting challenge and I'm looking forward to finding more ways to present this material.
